Cara’s Story

When I found out I was pregnant, I was extremely nervous. Devin and I had no intentions of having a baby. When I heard about New Hope, I was beyond thankful to have found such a great program, “Earn While You Learn” through this organization. Not only did this program offer me the knowledge to take care of myself during my pregnancy, and to prepare for life with a new baby, but it has also allowed me to earn “Baby Bucks” to be able to stock up on baby essentials from the shop located right inside their building!

Before going to New Hope, I continued to question how we were going to make this situation work, but I knew we needed to no matter what. New Hope helped show me that I could instill my hope and faith into God and He would help guide us through this journey together, and that is exactly what He has done. Giving myself to the Lord has also allowed me to bond in a totally different way with my soon-to-be step daughters, which is such a great feeling and made us so much closer.

Although having a baby was not in our plans, God has shown me that our baby boy is the greatest blessing to come. I have never been so excited for anything, EVER!

I love that New Hope plans to continue our journey of parenthood through the first year of our baby boy’s life. I truly feel like we have extended family here at New Hope and this experience has been one that I enjoy sharing with everyone.

“Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and your plans will succeed” (Proverbs 16:3)

Lakeshia’s Story

Moms walk through our doors feeling the weight of the world on their shoulders. Lakeshia was no different. Her heart was weary and worn by life’s circumstances, but she did not lack joy. Her story is one of faith and fortitude.

When Lakeshia came to New Hope, she and her four little ones were living in one room of her mom’s small home. With her fifth baby on the way, she was in need of support, and New Hope was her answer. She’d fallen on hard times financially a few years earlier when her four-year-old daughter was diagnosed with a heart condition that became more dire than anyone expected. In the process of caring for her little one, going to countless doctor’s visits, and fearing the worst, Lakeshia lost her home and her job. Moving in with her mom was her only option. When she became pregnant with her fifth child, she had goals to get back on her feet and knew she could not rely on her own strength to get her through, so she turned to the women at New Hope for coaching and prayer.

All was going well health-wise until Lakeshia’s 20-week appointment when doctors noticed a problem. Mom and baby were sent to a specialist who relayed information that no mom ever wants to hear — Xailyn’s organs are not developing properly. Then, at 34 weeks pregnant, she could no longer feel Xailyn moving. For two weeks, mom and baby were monitored in the hospital. Everything seemed to be going well until the day before her C-section was scheduled; the doctors delivered another blow — “expect your baby not to make it.”

Lakeshia’s response was one of faith and fortitude — “I went straight to the throne, straight into prayer. I told God, I don’t want to be selfish, but I feel like you gave him to me for a reason.” Right then and there she dedicated her son to Him. “I put my faith and worries in God’s hand. I asked him to be the doctor… to give me strength.”

Little Xailyn was born on January 26th going straight to the NICU where Lakeshia visited him every day to speak life over him. We are happy to report that he is doing fine now and is expected to continue growing and developing normally!

Lakeshia describes her time at New Hope as “such a relief.” New Hope has come alongside Lakeshia as she navigates parenting, pregnancy, and this new chapter with her miracle baby. The support she found here was beyond what she’d hoped and expected. Lakeshia recounts her visits being filled with sincere prayer, uplifting and life-giving coaching, and goal-setting — all of which made a big difference in her life. Lakeshia now has her own home, her children have everything they need, and she is full of peace.

We agree with Lakeshia when she says, “God is amazing.”
